Foiling Week: RaceSense Joins the Action with the Switch Class
We’re at Foiling Week Malcesine, and this year we brought RaceSense to one of foiling’s most exciting new classes: the Switch. Launched in 2022 and actively racing since 2024, the Switch Class is gaining interest fast—and this week, the fleet saw some of the sport’s biggest names on the water.
Olympic legends like Matthew Wearn (2x Gold), Tom Burton (Gold), Vilma Bobeck (Silver), and Simon Hiscocks (2x medalist), along with Olympians Micky Beckett, Maud Jayet, and Ben Bildstein, all joined the Switch action at Foiling Week. We’re proud to support their racing with RaceSense.
RaceSense brought precision, fairness, and a new level of confidence to the start line, something current class leader Finley Dickinson appreciated right away: “It’s my first time using RaceSense, and I’ve got to say—it’s a really nice piece of kit. You’re looking at the instrument and the countdown pops up, it flashes if you’re over early, and everyone’s using the same system, so there’s no more guesswork. After the start, you switch back to sailing mode with live data—speed, heel, compass—all really helpful, especially in these shifty conditions. It’s great.”
Olympic Gold Medalist Tom Burton also weighed in: “RaceSense is amazing. I actually got called OCS, but the system worked perfectly—and it kept me honest. In these fast foiling boats, you’re behind the line one second and over it the next. There’s no way a human can reliably call that. RaceSense gives you instant feedback, and for boats this quick, it’s absolutely essential.”
Antonia Schultheis, leading in the women’s division, shared: “Honestly, it’s super helpful—especially with features like distance to line. I didn’t even have to stress about the countdown. At one point I thought I was too close, checked the device, and saw I was all clear. It gave me peace of mind.”
We’re proud to support this innovative class and the athletes pushing it forward. The Switch is fast, fun, and full of potential—and with RaceSense on board, racing just got even better.
See you on the water.
