Minnetonka Yacht Club Partners with Vakaros to Bring RaceSense to Weekly Club Racing

The Minnetonka Yacht Club (MYC) is embracing the future of sailboat racing by adopting Vakaros RaceSense for its A Scow, E Scow, and Melges 15 Championship Series races. This partnership marks a significant milestone, as MYC becomes one of the first clubs in the country to integrate RaceSense into its regular weekly club racing, providing cutting-edge technology to both seasoned competitors and up-and-coming sailors alike.

Founded in 1882, MYC has a rich history of racing development, including the birthplace of the first scow-type hull in the late 19th century. Now, over 140 years later, the club is once again at the forefront of innovation, setting a new standard with RaceSense.

Mike Hanson, MYC Race Director and advocate for the club’s forward-thinking approach, shared his excitement about the new partnership. “Minnetonka Yacht Club has a deep history of racing development that goes back to our founding. We are always looking to be on the cutting-edge, and we’re excited to keep that innovative tradition alive with RaceSense.”

With one of the most talented A and E Scow fleets in the country, MYC members are no strangers to high-stakes competition, and RaceSense technology will provide a faster and fairer weekly racing experience. “Our members are always hunting for championships,” Hanson adds, “and our goal is to practice like you play. With RaceSense, we are giving our sailors the best preparation possible for success at ILYA and National Championships alike.”

A great example of how weekly RaceSense use can translate into big-regatta proficiency will be on display in the MYC Melges 15 fleet, which is preparing to host the 2025 ILYA Dinghy Championships on July 30 – August 2. With 80 boats expected to compete, local M15 sailors will be a step ahead of the field after a full summer with the new technology. “Lake Minnetonka has one of the best racetracks in the country,” says Hanson, “and we look forward to seeing RaceSense in action with teams from across the nation coming to mix it up. It’s going to be epic.”
