Classic Racing with New Tech: Star Class chooses RaceSense
The Star Class, one of sailing's most storied families, is taking a leap into the future of racing and implementing Vakaros RaceSense at its Commodore's Cup, the first leg of the 2023-2024 Star Winter Series. This will be the Star Class's second experience with RaceSense, having implemented this technology at the 2023 U23 European Championship in Austria.
Each competing team will be equipped with an Atlas 2 instrument provisioned with RaceSense software. This means that teams will no longer need to ping: timing, locations of the ends of the start-line, and scoring are all built in. And, these instruments use their 50cm accuracy to determine OCS and notify competitors immediately, allowing teams to restart and race faster.
Vakaros co-founder Todd Wilson shares that, "The Star Class has been a model of fair, tight racing for more years than almost any class. They've managed to maintain an incredible balance of remaining true to their roots while embracing modern technology. RaceSense is a natural next step, and we can't wait for the Commodore's Cup and more Star events."
Racing begins December 2 on the turquoise waters of Biscayne Bay: stay up to date with the regatta by following @vakaros_sailing on Facebook and Instagram, and stay tuned for more exciting RaceSense announcements!
