Sessions 2023: A Year in Review

Hey everyone, Tyler here, Head of Mobile Development here at Vakaros. 2023 has been a great year for us. Just this past January we introduced RaceSense and have set the sailing world ablaze. And while a lot of our focus has been on that, we haven’t forgotten about everyone, from the beer can sailors to the olympic hopefuls, y’all are out there everyday using your Atlases and creating loads of sessions.
Before we crunch the numbers, I just want to shout out Vakaros Connect, our mobile app which allows you to download, view, and share your sessions, among many other things.
To provide some perspective on the year we’ve had, we’ll take a quick look back to 2022, the year in which the Atlas 2 launched, we only recorded 4752 sessions. But in 2023 y’all recorded nearly five times as many, for a total of 23651 sessions in 2023!! Which is about 69 sessions per day! That’s crazy! And from the bottom of our hearts here at Vakaros, we thank you for choosing us to accompany you on the water.
Now, let’s take a deep dive into all of this data and just see what 23651 sessions really looks like.
Stats by the numbers
Total Distance
Across all of these sessions, y'all covered a distance of 588,447 kilometers. Which is equivalent to going around the equator over 14 times! Though when looking at the average distance per session, it’s around 25 km!
Number of Races
Thanks in no small part to all of the RaceSense regattas that’ve been run this year, the number of races that’ve been started on an Atlas this year is 31704. That’s about 87 races per day!
Breakdown by country
This year has been huge for us in terms of reaching the wider sailing world, and we’ve been blown away by the fact that there has been a session recorded on every continent
this year (excluding Antarctica, of course). In fact here is a map showing all the different corners of the world where somebody has been #AtlasEquipped:
