A busy month Down Under
It’s only early March, but 2024 came in hot for us, and we're not going to lie; we hit the ground running from day one. The past few weeks have been hectic on a global scale for us here at Vakaros. Not only have we been fully committed to the Melges 15 Winter Series and the RYA Dinghy & Watersport Show, where we had the opportunity to connect with our customers, but we've also traveled to Australia. Here's a glimpse of how it's been going so far and what the future holds for us.
Mid-February saw us making our way to Sydney for the SailGP Inspire event. With the stunning backdrop of Sydney Harbour, we spent a memorable week running RaceSense for 18 talented young sailors from across the country. Equipped with our Atlas 2 technology, they competed in 38 thrilling races, showcasing their skills and passion for the sport. And guess what, our ambassador Louis Tilly grabbed the gold medal! Working alongside these future legends of the sport it’s always a rewarding experience and we are truly looking forward to the upcoming event, which will take place mid-March in Auckland.
After a brief time off, our focus now shifts to the highly anticipated JJ Giltinan Cup, the World Championship for the 18 Footers.
With its roots tracing back to the inaugural race in Sydney Harbour in 1938, this event holds a special place in our calendar. This partnership has been incredibly satisfying since day one and this first year has been nothing less than tremendous. “I’m beyond excited to be in Australia alongside our friends and family at Harken. They’ve welcomed us with open arms and have introduced me to some amazing people along the way. I may be 10k miles away from home, but Grant Pellew and his team make me feel like a local-” says Will Huerth, our Global Sales manager. As we gear up for the event, the excitement is real, with teams coming from all around the world.
The next chapter of our journey in Australia is set in Perth for the upcoming Etchells Pre-Worlds and World Championship events. On March 9th, we'll be equipping 41 Etchells teams with our cutting-edge Atlas 2 technology, marking a significant milestone for our company. It will be the first time the class experiences RaceSense in real-time, and we're honored to be part of this. With the pre-worlds kicking off on March 11th, anticipation is building, especially with the inclusion of sailing legend John Bertrand among the Atlas users.
As our journey Down Under continues, we remain committed to our mission of innovating sailing technology. From inspiring the next generation of sailors at SailGP Inspire to preparing for world championship events like the JJ Giltinan Cup and the Etchells Worlds, every moment is an opportunity to showcase our dedication to excellence. Stay tuned for more updates and insights from us!
