Atlas Users dominate Bacardi Cup 2024
The Bacardi Cup, hosted annually in Miami, is a legendary event that every year draws sailors from across the globe. This year marked another spectacular event, with Atlas users dominating the regatta.
In the prestigious Star Class, Atlas users controlled the podium, showcasing their skill and the efficacy of their equipment. Mateusz Kusznierewicz and Bruno Prada clinched the gold medal, followed by Augie Diaz and Henry Boening securing silver, and Eric Doyle and Payson Infelise claiming bronze.
"It's a fantastic result- said Mateusz Kusznierewicz, winner of the Bacardi Regatta with Bruno Prada in the Star Class- winning the Bacardi Cup this year, our fifth consecutive victory here, it's unbelievable. We are very happy with our equipment, we have a very good boat, very good sails from Doyle Sails and a very good tool from Vakaros. I really like the device: how it looks, it's light, how small it is. It fits perfectly on the deck, it's like an iPhone 15 made for sailors. We like how easy it is to read the numbers on the screen: I can see heading and speed from whatever angle I am looking at these numbers from, and not only me, Bruno can see them very well too. The instrument is really precise so every move I amdoing, the device reacts immediately and it's really helping me, especially in the light winds, where I am steering the boat according to the numbers. It also helped us on the starts, we knew exactly where we were and on the last day we had perfect starts. Lastly, it's really easy to download the session and see how it went."
This success extends beyond the Star Class, as Bora Gulari and his team triumphed in the Melges 24 class: "We have been using the Atlas 2 for three events now and in practice days we use it for the load cells and having the integration with the speed and the starts.Functions are great, it does it all, it's very smooth and a very nice piece of equipment -" said Gulari.
Lastly, we ran RaceSense for the VX One class, a class who’s embraced Vakaros as one of their own.
Chris Alexander, the winner of the Bacardi Cup in the VX One class gave us an overview of his week: "The breeze finally showed up on the last day, we are heavy, so we have got good boat speed in the breeze. We had two clean starts and we were able to just get up to the front and stay there. RaceSense is amazing, it's the best thing to happen to sailing. You don't have to press buttons anymore, the timing is perfect, you don't have to ping the line anymore and stress levels are just lower. You can actually just sail the boat. One ofthe greatest features of it is that it helps the middle and later boats to get on the line, making racing more competitive and tougher. About the Atlas 2, I started watching my speed a lot more to know how high or low I am. You’ve got a pretty wide lane on the VX, so you can sail the boat different ways, so I can use my speed to kind of know which mode I'm in better. I love the instrument."
